"See then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” —James 2:24
The missions ministry of Strawbridge seeks to provide a wide variety of opportunities for the entire congregation to share God’s love through works. Opportunities are available for service and support locally, regionally, and internationally.Want to know more about mission opportunities at Strawbridge? Contact Howard Deterding.

Mission Trips
All Youth Mission Trip: Every summer, SUMC sends approximately 200 participants to Gonzales, Texas for a week of light construction projects on low income housing.
UM ARMY
UM ARMY is a mission trip for youth from several churches in which teams work on construction projects such as wheelchair ramps, painting, and handrails.
Mission Work Trips
Smaller mission projects are scheduled periodically.
Disaster Relief
Several trips are planned as needed throughout the year in response to disasters. Strawbridge is also an official Red Cross Shelter with 75 volunteers trained to assist when the shelter is used.
Family Promise of Lake Houston
Strawbridge UMC is one of thirteen churches in the local Family Promise of Lake Houston (FP) network that includes Kingwood, Porter, Humble, Atascocita and Huffman. As a host church, we welcome up to three families for a week on a rotating schedule, providing food, shelter, and spiritual support. Before being accepted into the network, families are rigorously screened by FP staff in an effort to find parents who are willing to work hard to break the cycle of homelessness for the sake of their children. Through daily direction from FP staff and volunteer support from the churches and the community, we are witness to the amazing transformation of generations – one family at a time. Contact the Strawbridge FP Coordinator, Corena Lipstreuer at 281-734-4172, to learn more about ways that you can be involved. Our 2012 rotations are: March11 to 8, June 10 to 17, and September 9 to 6.
Habitat for Humanity
Strawbridge has completed construction of two Habitat for Humanity houses in Montgomery County; one in 2009 and one in 2010 (see both houses and their families below). We have begun work (in partnership with Woodridge Baptist Church) on our 2012 Habitat House! There are volunteer opportunities for all - behind the scenes or at the construction site. If you’d like to lend a hand during this five-month project, send your name, telephone number, and e-mail address to Howard Deterding .
