Music
Worship is a sacred privilege and joy that gives meaning and significance to life as we look beyond ourselves to focus on and adore the triune God. At Strawbridge our morning worship services employ the old and the new, the traditional and the contemporary, all in the praise of God. Our 8:30 and 11 a.m. traditional worship services feature the Chancel Choir. Our 11 a.m. contemporary worship service features the Crossroads Praise Band.
We are blessed with an excellent music program whose goal is to help congregants worship in meaningful ways. Also, it provides people with musical gifts the opportunity to use them for God’s glory through adult, youth, and children’s choirs, the Handbell Choir, the Crossroads Praise Band, and the Youth Praise Band.
Children's Choirs
Four fun and educational children’s choirs are available for children ages four through sixth grade. Preschool Praise is available for three year olds. In Preschool Praise, three year olds are introduced to music in a fun way, and they perform twice during the year. The other children's choirs sing age appropriate music at worship services occasionally during the school year. The children's choirs also prepare a special full-length program every year that provides biblical and musical instruction. We have a Youth Choir for Jr. and Sr. High age students. For information about the children's music programs, contact Richard Aslanian.
Musical Opportunities at SUMC
Participation in music ministry is open to all who enjoy singing for the glory of God. No prior experience is necessary – just a singing spirit! The Chancel Choir sings each week at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. traditional services, September through May. Childcare is provided for rehearsals. The Crossroads Praise Band leads the worship at the 11 a.m. contemporary, band-led service. Sounds of Strawbridge Handbell Choir rings periodically during worship services. Four Children’s Choirs (for pre-school through 6th grade) sing in worship throughout the year and present a musical at Christmas and in the spring. The Youth Choir is for Middle School and High School singers. For more information on these musical ministry groups, contact Richard Aslanian.
